foreverware

Once upon a time in the dark ages, in the long ago, in the age before the iPhone and reliable high speed broadband there was the humble video game. You would play it, it would last for a finite length of time and then it would end. You'd move on and play another game, maybe read a book, watch a film, join a ukulele band. You'd cast that game into the realm of memories past, enriched by the experience in some way but no longer actively partaking of it. Now that time never ended as such, those games are still very much around but in the here and now they have been eclipsed somewhat by something else altogether.

to play or not to play

There I was, chilling and relaxing all cool on a day off when suddenly a bizarre, weird and utterly strange notion pops into my head. Namely that for the first time in an age I have more games around me that I know what to do with. I look upon the list below and wonder how I came to be such a junkie for the high quality product of the videogame industry.

crossover mania

So there's this teaser site ticking away the day, hours and minutes to something almost very Fallout related. There is the collective hope that Fallout 4 is on the horizon. Will it? Can it? Be it? Having played this series since its first atmospheric outing into the future past I can say I am very happy at the prospect. Very few fictional worlds bring it together like this one does, a retro future 1950's America warped, twisted and annihilated by nuclear hellfire but still very much there when you wipe away the ashes. It's bleak, funny and demented and if there's more coming I will be very much doing my happy dance.
