post 100

Well it only took me, what? 3 years, 2 months and give or take a couple of days to get to this, post 100 people. Remember where you were and so on. Granted only a fraction of that was comprised of actual regular honest-to-goodness blogging but still, its good to think I've stuck with it if not always consistently. Makes me wish I actually had something more to blog about tonight, like maybe an actual list of favourite games that I have been alluding to lately but alas its still under construction. All those badly written jokes don't write themselves, no that's all me.

Well it shouldn't take as long to get to post 200 and beyond given that I have dedicated myself to updating this creation of mine on a regular basis. Even if on some days I am exhausted, mentally wasted or otherwise devoid of subject matter, I will always endeavour to leave a little something around here to mark the moment. So yeah just self-referential blogging about blogging tonight but what about the future? Spoilers ahead but at a guess it'll include many posts on the length and breadth of all things Dave.

Spoilers but that'll mean endless musing on videogames, comic books, books books, Doctor Who, Lego, Lovecraft, the musical stylings of the 1980's and 90's, the respective decades in and of themselves as well as things, more things and much much more! No I can't tell whether that's a promise or a threat. Can't tell whether I'm being serious either. Maybe I'm deadly serious or maybe I'm just making it up as I go along. Yeah it's probably that. Anyway here's to more random noise in whatever shape or form it takes after being filtered through my brain and processed through a keyboard as it makes its way onto your screen. Adios!

anime hair and the end of days

I've just completed a game that, in normal circumstances at least, wouldn't generally be my cup of tea. A game remastered and released in 2021 but which originally arrived in 2010 in a somewhat 'adjusted' manner shall we say?. A game I meant to get around to back then but never did and now that I have finally gotten around to both playing and completing it, I'm not entirely sure if I liked it or not. That game is Nier Replicant or to give it it's full re-released title:  Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139... because clearly the game alone wasn't baffling enough....

horror movie mania 2023

Once more we return to my favourite time of year. The air cools to a brisk chill, the leaves go red and brown in that deeply pleasing way and the evenings grow steadily darker. This year it's slightly different for me as major non-threatening life events unfolded earlier this month but amidst a flurry of recent activity I have found time to sneak in that most precious of all October past-times, the Halloween-adjacent horror movie marathon.  This year I've managed to watch more than a film or two so thought I'd give my thoughts in brief on each one. These are mostly films that have been on my to-watch list for an age with an exception or two and there may be more than one movie called Halloween as it happens, maybe even more than two. To the hot takes...

gaming archaeology

There is an art to playing old games, a   mindset even. A requisite state of mind thats required in order to play through its history. It's often said that you can't judge the past by the standards of the present and this is true to a point. Beyond that point the present can very much creep into your judgements and I think this is fine too as long as you are honest about it. The present moment can indeed cast a harsh light on the past, revered classics may not hold up even if you can still see what made them tick way back when. Such thoughts have come to mind recently as I found myself playing through the original 1987 release of Maniac Mansion .
